Today for dinner I (evilly) ordered a pizza. Very bad for my diet. LOL! But when the delivery guy got here and Barry went down to get the pizza they saw that the cat had something cornered in the yard. At first Barry thought it was a rat, and the pizza guy thought it was a kitten, but then they realized that it was in fact, a baby squirrel. The poor thing had been bitten by Felicity (we think) and was bleeding from it's leg from a puncture wound and a rip in it's skin. Barry got it in a box, and we looked up online what to do with a baby squirrel. Thankfully we found a wildlife rehab center just 30 minutes away and so we called them and they told us we could bring them the little squirrel.
It was so sweet. It curled up in the washcloth that I was holding it in, and just closed it's eyes and let me rub it's head and under it's chin and on it's belly. You could tell it really liked it. I filled up a freezer bag with hot water and wrapped it up in some soft cloth and put the baby on it since squirrels need to be kept at around 99 degrees. It curled up so good against the hot water bottle and slept all the way to the rehab center. The lady took it in and said it had a broken leg and she would have to put it in a cast, but thankfully they can do that there and give it antibiotics and stuff to make it better. She said she didn't know if it would improve enough to be able to ever go back to the wild, because of it's broken leg, but that if it didn't she would be able to keep it as a learning pet for kids and other people.
I'm so glad that we were able to find someplace to take in that sweet little baby squirrel. I really didn't know what to do with it, and it's always better to let people who understand these types of things to take care of them.
I didn't know that squirrels could be so sweet and cute though! I wanted to keep it by the time we got it to the rehab center, but I know that would definitely not have been in its best interest. I decided to name it George, (LOL!) and found out that it was a girl, so now I shall fondly remember my 2 hours with Georgia the squirrel who hopefully will get better and one day be able to return to the wild, but who will have a good life regardless since she won't be eaten by a mean ol' cat named Felicity.
And if none of that makes sense it's because it is late and I'm very sleepy.
( Squirrel picture )That's my totally cool Womping Willow T-shirt that you can see part of behind the Squirrel. My oldest's boyfriend made it for me before going to see OOtP and getting DH. (I lurve my shirt) LOL!
